THANK YOU!
Thanks to all of you who viewed my photos. To my wife and kids thanks for the very special book you had made of my pictures. Can't wait to see part two.
How could 365 days go by so quickly? Seems like only a few weeks ago I was standing out in the subzero temperatures in Door County, WI (freezing my butt off) trying to get a decent photo of the full moon and the church steeple. I have found the challenge of taking a picture a day to be a very rewarding experience. It provided me with a journal of a year in my life, but most importantly it made me a better photographer. As the year came to an end, I wasn't sure I would continue into 2011, but the book my family gave me has motivated me to go on.
To anyone considering doing 365 photos I would say go for it. To you I would offer this advice:
1. Take your camera with you at all times. Don't foget extra memory cards, batteries, and your tripod.
2. Get you camera out of the Auto Mode. Don't be afraid to experiment, you can always delete.
3. Take pictures of a variety of themes and subjects.
4. Don't limit your picture taking to just trying to get your picture of the day. Photograph other things that interest you.
5. Keep on snapping, don't quit. Some days you will feel like you can't find anything to photograph, don't quit, get creative. The rewards of finishing this project are worth the time and effort you put into it.
6. Most importantly: HAVE FUN !
HAPPY NEW YEAR !
Went to the movies to see "True Grit". I wasn't sure I wanted to see it. Didn't know if Jeff Bridges could pull off the part of Rooster Cogburn that earned John Wayne the 1970 Oscar for the Best Actor. Bridges did a great job! Then home to fix crablegs and crabcakes dinner.
Wild Turkey
Found this turkey beside the road on the way to the lake today. She must have been hit by a car as she had difficulty running into the nearby field.
Iceboating
Went out to the lake today and took these pictures of some friends iceboating. I didn't sail today, but I have before. It's quite a thrill flying across the ice freezing your buns off. Lots of fun when the wind picks up the boat onto two runners (see first picture). As you glide across the lake you can sometimes hear the ice popping and cracking behind you, makes you wonder what's going on. You must be very aware of the lake and watchout for open water. Check out this video on Youtube.
Donkeys
My son and his wife own some land in the country. Their neighbors raise donkeys. As I hiked their property this afternoon I took my shot of the day.

The Villa Pizza Is Open
On January 8, 2010 a local landmark, The Villa Pizza was destroyed by fire. Many of the citizens of Mattoon have suffered through almost a year of no Villa Pie. On Christmas Eve the new Villa carryout and delivery opened, customers endured a 2-3 hour wait for their favorite pizza. Tonight was the second night they have been open. Today's picture shows a crowd inside The Villa ordering and picking up pizzas. Plans are still in the making to rebuild the restuarant.
The following link is to my pictures of the fire's aftermath.

Webbs' Garden in Black and White
One of our neighbors, the Webbs, have a beautiful backyard. The grasses, pines, fences, gates, gazebo, and of course the snow add a lot of interest to this shot.
Christmas Day
Dad's 14 greatgrandkids. Forgotten lesson from Photography 101, don't wait until 4:29 p.m. on Christmas Day to take pictures of kids. They all didn't sleep much last night, got up very early this morning, loaded up on sugar all day long, and were baraged with tons of gifts. Did finally get all 14 of them in the picture and only 3 of them were crying. Anyway, a good time was had by all. Merry Christmas!
